Updates in traffic

21 March 2012

Folks, even with minimal updates, there are still a couple hundred unique visitors every month. We are in the process of planning a new initiative to keep the momentum going, and we plan to renew focus on the site and bringing as many visitors to the antiques stores of New York.

Picture yourself in this gazebo and bistro set

16 October 2011

This group of items just posted by Hyde Park Antiques Center is one of those items that just takes your breath away. Not just for the surface beauty, but imagine it as the centerpiece of a rock and flower garden, surrounded by mossy paths, entangled with vines for shade. You can view the photo alongside a few other uploads at the Hyde Park Antiques Facebook page photo page. Call them today at (845) 229-8200 and start getting the fixtures for your back yard as soon as possible. You’ll thank yourself when you’re sipping iced tea next summer in your vine-shaded gazebo.

Antique rocking horse and music box at Cider House

14 October 2011

Aside from the movie with Michael Caine, in what other context does the Cider House Rule? If it’s on this site, then it must be Cider House Antiques, a wonderful antiques store in Bouckville, New York.

We found this picture on their antiques page, and we thought it was so chock-full of great finds for any antiquer, we just had to share.

Antiques galore: Rocking horse, music box, too box (or tackle box), paintings, and more.

Located in the center of the Bouckville antique community is the Cider House Antique Store with its wide variety of dealers and their unique and hard to find treasures. Open 10-5 summer and fall, call 315-893-7579 for winter and early spring hours.

Home Farm Antiques

21 September 2011

We’d like to bring attention to Home Farm Antiques, a store in the 518 area code that does a great job showing what they have. Lots of great pictures on their website, and an active Facebook presence. You can find jewelry, art, books and paper, and more while you spend a long visit at the website, and hopefully, give them a call to visit their store.

Finger Lakes’ Antique Country Mile

21 September 2011

With all of the beauty available from the Finger Lakes, nothing could enhance a visit to the region more than a stroll along the Bloomfield Antiques Country Mile where you can stop in on dozens of antiques stores while you’re there.

Take a look at their website, and click on the links on the left for a few of the antiques stores you can find there.

Red Chair on Warren: Hudson, NY

10 September 2011

On the spectrum of antiques stores, Red Chair is certainly in the top tier. Filled with extraordinary pieces including furniture, baskets, candlesticks and other fixtures, and enough odds and ends to keep you browsing for hours, walking into the store instantly brings the word “pristine” to mind. Certainly filled with items that have seen more years than most of us who visit, every offering is exceptionally maintained and a delight to encounter.

One of my favorites was a writing desk that conceals drawers and compartments inside, also revealing enough storage space to make any of today’s business operators, writers, or antiques enthusiasts shudder with excitement. One observation is the phenomenal design of antiques–with a surface that lifts to expose the place for papers and whatnots, the closed desk will always stay clean and professional. Stately, even.

You can stop in to Red Chair on Warren at 606 Warren St., Hudson, NY 12534 or call (518) 828-1158. You can also visit their Facebook page or website.

Get on your tricycle

Antique adult tricycle

Today’s kids get all the good stuff, but looking at antiques shows us that it wasn’t always the way. How many times have you wished you could find some good footie-pajamas like your daughter seems so comfortable in? Or a bouncy house build for adults? Watching them enjoy their comfort and entertainment items make us long for something that will give us a similar happiness, even if we know that once the house is deflated or the sun’s morning rays break into the room,  we still have to go back to work.

But anyway, did you know that at one time, a tricycle wasn’t just for kids? Much like the high-wheel bikes of the late 1800s, some tricycles were built strictly for adults. The above velocipede was photographed at Saugerties Antiques Gallery (call to inquire about availability), but there’s really a wealth of interesting reads when you look around.

Wheeling in the Years is a page on Jim  ”Bicycle Aficionado” Langley’s website, and even has a picture of the above bike (not the technical term, as that’s short for “bicycle”) in action. Also, TricycleFetish.com (I know, you had no idea that particular type of fetish existed) has some interesting history on adult tricycles. And for the definitive guide on these human-powered land vehicles (velocipedes), visit the Wikipedia.org page. (Our favorite is #9 in the main illustration.)
